This white wine ginger sangria is the perfect cocktail for a hot summer afternoon. Sweet summer fruits soaked in white wine, ginger wine and lime cordial creating a fruity, citrusy, light and refreshing cocktail.
It is about that time of the year, where we get to sit in the garden, light up the barbecue and indulge in some delicious refreshments. The other day I was in my local supermarket and they had loads of fresh fruit on offer. So I bought some peaches, nectarines, apples and strawberries to make some sangria. I love me a good sangria. A while ago I shared a recipe for this Red Wine Sangria and this Watermelon Strawberry Rosé Sangria. So I am definitely overdue sharing a white wine version.
The great thing about sangria is that you do not need an expensive bottle of wine to make it and you can use whatever fruit you want or in season. It also a cocktail that can also be made in advance.
The recipe for preparing this sangria is rather simple. It requires two types of wine, lime cordial and whatever seasonal fruit is available.
Tips for creating a delicious Sangria.
White Wine– Choose a white wine you enjoy drinking on it’s own. Pinot Grigio or Moscato work really nicely as you will be adding different flavours to the sangria.
Ginger Wine– For an added kick to the sangria, I used ginger wine. If you haven’t got ginger wine at hand, you can make a ginger infused syrup by combining blended ginger with sugar and water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and then reduce to simmer over medium to low heat for an hour until a rich syrup is created. Strain the syrup through a cheesecloth or sieve into a large bottle. Ginger ale or beer can also be used. If you are using the ale or beer add before serving.
Fruit– The wonderful thing about sangria is that you can use whatever seasonal fruit is available or with your favourite fruit. Strawberries, peaches, pears, nectarines, apples are fruits you can use. Add in lemon and limes for the added citrusy flavour. For a tropical spin add sliced pineapples and mangoes. Get creative!! The fruits soak up the flavour of the cocktail are great to eat afterwards. To keep the fruit from browning whilst you slice them, give the sliced fruit a quick honey water bath for 30 seconds. To make the honey water mix together 2 tablespoons of honey and 250ml (1 cup water). Your fruit will stay fresh and bright for at least 8 hours, which is great if you want to slice your fruit ahead of time.
Made ahead of time– Sangria gets better as it sits longer. It allows time for the fruits to marinate and for the flavours to marry.
