This hot cocoa has subtle hints of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg and all spice. Topped with whipped cream and marshmallows it is delicious drink to enjoy over the Christmas period. It is also great for those freezing mornings and winter nights.
Today has just been rain rain rain. Way to go November. I am literally rolling my eyes at the rain. Like the rain cares. It is on days like this that I comfort myself with a mug of hot cocoa.
I have tried many store bought hot cocoa mixes from the pricey ones to cheap and I find them quite lacking. And the ingredients are questionable. Which got me thinking why not make my own homemade version and I was absolutely right. Homemade cocoa mix is so much better than the store bought ones. It is rich, chocolatey and so delicious.
Then I thought why not add some spices. to the mix. A bit of cinnamon, a dash of nutmeg, some ginger, ooh I love ginger and all spice. My already delicious hot cocoa turned into something almost magical. It adds so much flavour.
The aroma from the simmering mixture of milk, cocoa and spices is absolutely amazing and will have your home smelling delicious. Add a teaspoon of vanilla extract and then top with whipped cream and marshmallows. This spiced hot drink is just pure decadence. With each sip you get the subtle kick of the spices which is fantastic. Absolute comfort!!
Pair this hot cocoa with a soft baked ginger crinkle cookie. It’s great combo flavours.
Tips for making this Spiced Mix Hot Cocoa

This looks and sounds absolutely heavenly. Adding a hint of spice is a genius idea too. I lived in Switzerland for many years and developed quite a hot chocolate addiction. Definitely going to give this a go. Yum!
